Ways to remove a tree stump

While removing a tree stump may seem like a daunting task, it is often the most difficult part of the job. This is why the cost of tree removal doesn’t usually include stump grinding. There are many options for removing a stump from a tree.

Hiring a stump grinding service can help you save time. This is the most expensive option but it will get the job done quicker. A stump grinder can be rented if you have enough stumps to grind and the knowledge and training to safely use it.
Pulling or winningching

Alternately, you can pull out smaller stumps using a winch. These are available for hire, but they require knowledge and training. You should leave a good-sized stub at the stump of leverage (upto 1.2m (4ft) tall) instead of cutting it off at ground.
Chainsaw

A chainsaw can be used for tree stump removal Saffron Walden. You simply need to dig around the stump and then cut it as low as you can. Next, cut crisscross slices in the stump about 4-6 inches below the ground. Be aware that this could damage or break your chain, and it won’t completely get rid of the stump.
Grubbing out

While it can be tedious, it is much cheaper to remove a stump by hand. Simply remove the soil surrounding the stump and expose the larger tree roots.

Depending upon the size of your roots, you may need to use loppers, a bar, or a handsaw to cut them into manageable pieces. Next, remove any root system that is left.

You should be able easily to get rid of the stump by removing as many roots and as many roots possible. It may be necessary that you dig beneath the stump with a spade and then cut some more roots to get it out. After removing the stump, you can chop it up and add it to your compost pile. Some roots can be left in the ground but most should eventually fall.

It is a good idea to have a manual mini excavator.
Burning

Because stumps are too wet, we don’t recommend that you burn them in situ. It is also important to think about how long it will take, and whether it is safe to burn.

A fire pit is an ideal and practical way to make a campfire. A ring of rocks can be placed around the stump to create a campfire for the night. Every time you make a fire, the stump will slowly burn down until it is gone completely.

A burn barrel is your best choice for safe burning. You will need a large metal drum to make the hole. It can be placed upside-down on a stump.
Rotting

The stump could be left to rot in a simple way: simply put it in compost and leave it for a couple of years. You can remove the stump with an axe, or a spade, if it has sufficiently decomposed.
