Many questions are asked about wedding shoes at alteration fittings and during bridal appointments. These are the top questions we get most often. We’ll do our best to keep this page up-to-date with links to all of the shoes that we love from each season. We hope that you enjoy our guide to wedding shoes.
Shoes for weddings: Closed-Toe, Open-Toe.
This question is often asked in our boutiques. Closed-toed shoes are recommended for colder climates. Open-toe shoes, however, are best for warm wedding days. Closed-toe shoes can be worn for black-tie events, but they are not required. It is important to keep an open mind about closed-toe or open-toe shoes. Comfort and overall style should weigh more heavily in your decision. Look at your shoe collection before you head out to shop for shoes. Do you prefer to have closed-toe shoes, or open-toe ones?
What is your favorite heel for daily wear?
From personal experience, shoes are more about the style of the shoe than their actual height. But I love my heels. I’m 5’6″, and wish I was taller. Flat wedding shoes are the best option for some brides. You will feel the most comfortable. Flats were not an option when I was searching for shoes for my wedding. My posture is better in heels. I feel more dressed-up and ready for any occasion. If you can’t bear to wear heels for more than an hour, I recommend flats. You can make your dress too long for the reception by starting with a tall bridal shoe and gradually dropping down to a lower heel. The dress can’t be hemmed at both the high and low heel.
Do you think it is okay to wear flats to the marriage ceremony?
Wear what you want! There are no rules when it comes to shoes. You can hem your dress however you like. Traditionally, seamstresses will hem your dress just above the floor. Your pearl wedding shoes won’t be visible from where you stand at the altar. However, the toes will be visible if you step forward. The shoe’s toe will be more important in style than its heel. Flats are a preferred choice for some brides, whether it is comfort or their fiance’s height. Wedding flats in the past were not very attractive and brides were often reluctant to wear them. The variety of wedding flat shoes has improved over the years and many of my brides now opt for fun, comfortable flats.
We asked our Instagram users if flats were more preferred than heels for their wedding day. Of the 180 votes cast, 16% voted for flats while 84% voted for heels.
Bridal Fashion Tip! Think of Your Wedding Shoes like an accessory!
You automatically think about your bride look when you think about your dress. The next step? Next, add earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, and maybe a crown. Finding the right shoes for your wedding can be a difficult task. You should never forget your shoes! You won’t need to change your shoes until after the ceremony. They are with you for life. Be wise. Do you love them? Are they comfortable? Do they make the right statement? You can choose from a block, stilhetto, or sensible shoe. Make sure your wedding shoe is something you love!
Are wedding shoes to be made with lace, beading or clean soles?
Yes, that’s one of my favorite questions. Here is where the style advice comes into play! There will be a mix of opinions, even from the stylists at The Bridal Finery. It’s okay to have different opinions. I love shoes that match the hem. You can choose a statement-making sparkly shoe if the hem is very sparkly. A clean pump, an open-toe shoe or a soft lacing option are options for dresses made from satin or crepe fabrics. Consider a lace-style shoe if the dress has lace. A clean shoe is your best option if you are unable to find the right fabric. A clean shoe should only be worn if you are going outside for the ceremony and reception. Shoes can get very dirty, so it is best to only wear them once.
What color of wedding shoes should you wear?
Perhaps I am too basic, but I love a pair of color-matched shoes. Consider a soft-colored shoe if you are going for a particular color. Something blue is an old tradition and symbolizes fidelity. I love a dove shoe! You can find inspiration from the Pantone colors of each year for your wedding shoe color choices. Because the shoes are not very obvious, this could be your chance to incorporate a super trendy element into your wedding day. I recommend sticking to a bridal brand if you want to match the shoes to your dress. The best shades of white, offwhite, and ivory are available from a shoe brand that is heavily focused on weddings. Make sure you check the return policy before you bring the shoes to your first fitting. We may be able to send you a sample of the dress, depending on which designer.
