So why is this gin boom? There are five main reasons why gin is so popular today.
1. More easily accessible
HMRC used to have a problem when gin distilleries produced small amounts, making it nearly impossible for new companies to flourish. This all changed when Sipsmith, a fashionable West London gin producer won a two year legal battle with HMRC. It gave distilleries legal permission to produce small amounts of gin.
This created the opportunity for independent gin producers across the country to flourish and create their own brand of gin.
2. Changing cocktail culture
Cocktails were once reserved for the rich and those who enjoy boozy summer nights. This has changed dramatically in recent years as cocktail menus are now the norm at bars, restaurants and pubs all over the country. Gin has been a popular ingredient in cocktail culture. Gin lovers will be familiar with its versatility and ability to make almost any kind of cocktail. It is affordable and can be used to make cocktails with just a few drops.
3. Versatility
Gin’s versatility is one of its greatest assets. It is also very exciting. Filey Distillery produces many different flavors, strengths and tones depending on how the drink is made.
Many botanical infusions can be used to enhance the flavour of Gin. The following infusions are very popular: vanilla pods, aniseed and orange peel. All over the UK, there are gins tastings that allow guests to create their own botanical gin creations.
4. Nutritious value
It’s not calorific beer. They don’t even call it beer belly! Gin is low in calories. Gin is a good choice for those who don’t want to compromise their diet and healthy lifestyle. A shot of Gin contains 72 calories.
5. Pop culture
